(AGI) Rome, July 1 - Some 30 cycling enthusiasts are due to setoff on a bike tour of the First World War battlefields on July6. Their itinerary includes roads and places where battles werefought in Trentino, Friuli, Alto Adige, Slovenia and Austria.The tour has been organised by the cultural organisation'Pedalando nella Storia - Maurice Garin', and the cyclistsinclude several blind athletes taking part on tandems.Participants will have an opportunity to visit the mainmilitary war memorials (Redipuglia, Asiago, Nervesa dellaBattaglia and Caporetto) and museums along the way (Redipuglia,Caporetto, Monte Piana and Passo Falzarego), as they travelthrough the many testaments to the Great War in NortheastItaly. As on other historical-commemorative cycle tours overthe last five years, meetings with local governmentrepresentatives and military authorities in the main centreswill be held, along with short commemoration ceremonies. Theroute includes the two cities symbolic of Italian irredentism:Trento - where the tour will start and finish- and Trieste.(AGI). .
