(AGI) Paris, Nov 17 - A new children's space has opened in theItalo Calvino library of the Italian Cultural Institute inParis. The stock of children's books was increased to 650 forthe occasion with recently published works. The Italo Calvinolibrary, which was opened in the late 1950s, has more than50,000 volumes, is the largest library in the network ofItalian Cultural Institutes and covers a variety ofdisciplines. The stock of children's books was increased to 650 forthe occasion with recently published works. The Italo Calvinolibrary, which was opened in the late 1950s, has more than50,000 volumes, is the largest library in the network ofItalian Cultural Institutes and covers a variety ofdisciplines. It owes its name to a fund donated in the late1990s by Esther Singer Calvino, the widow of the famous Italianwriter. The LAPS architecture studio designed the new area,which is housed in one of the reading rooms, while the shelveswere made to measure by MyOp, a Sicilian craft industriescompany which specialises in re-using ecological materials andproducing goods by electronic processing. The opening of thenew space was an opportunity to present other LAPS projects tothe public, including those made in association with MyOp. LAPSis an Italian-French agency founded in Paris in 2008 byFabienne Louyot, Gaia Patti and Salvator-John Liotta. It workedon the restoration of the Norman castle of Favara, whichreceived an honourable mention in the young Italian architectscompetition in 2013, and the Patronage Laique, a newly-openedbuilding in Paris whose design, which was displayed at thisyear's Venice Biennale, won the first prize from the NationalInstitute of Architecture and the National Association ofBuilders.
