(AGI) Rome, Feb 20 - The CEO of Eni, Claudio Descalzi, dedicated his Man of the Year 2014 award from the daily energypaper Staffetta Quotidiana to the multinational company. "Theaward I receive today belongs to Eni's strong culture, whichguides us at all times towards finding new solutions that arenot invasive, but constructive and oriented towards thefuture," Descalzi said during the ceremony at Rome's LUISSuniversity on Friday. "We aim to do things right: for example,we have massive reserves of ten billion barrels from sevenyears of exploration, and these have given us flexibility. Thenwe sought new paths. We were the first to convert traditionalrefineries into green ones where we produce biodiesel - withoutclosing them," he said. "These things don't happen withoutfocus on technology, which is the other crucial tool forfinding new paths. New doors are opened only by knowing things, studying them, motivating your people to study them. Weaccomplished this great transformation with employment as ourmain objective; we didn't want to damage that, and it wasn't asimple task." Descalzi then commented on the current drop inoil prices: "We're dealing with that not only by cutting costsbut also with new solutions." Referring to Eni's results forthe year, presented on Wednesday, he added: "We reached acashflow of 15 billion euros, the highest result since 2008when we still owned SNAM. We achieved this through efficiencymeasures and by reducing costs without impact on our productionor our employees. I didn't do all this alone; it was first andforemost the company," Descalzi concluded. . .
