(AGI) Barcelona, Sept 28 - Pro-independence parties are unitedfor the secession of Spain's Catalonia, yet divided on who willlead the regional government. In the aftermath of the votewhich brought 72 regional government seats out of a possible135 to the separatist parties, the far left CUPanti-capitalists reiterated on Monday that they will notsupport Artur Mas as a repeat candidate to lead theGeneralitat. Mas is the leader of the 'Juntos por el Si'coalition and the current regional president of Catalonia. "The[independence] process does not consist of one person and noone is irreplaceable," said the number 2 of the CUP, AnnaGabriel, according to Spanish media. "We will not supportcorrupt people and those who slash welfare services," addedAntonio Banos, the leader of the CUP, referring to a corruptionscandal which involved Mas' party. During Sunday's elections,Artur Mas' coalition, 'Juntos por el Si' ('Together for Yes')succeeded in getting 62 seats. To get the majority in the 135seat parliament would, therefore, require the 10 seats earnedby the far left CUP. Thus, even after pro-independence partieswon the election in Catalonia, the major secessionist party,Juntos por el Si, will have to unite with the the leftist CUPin order to govern. The final outcome of the vote wastransformed by the Regional President of Catalonia, Artur Mas,who turned it into a sort of referendum on independence fromMadrid. The secessionist coalition supporting Mas obtained 62seats out of 135, while the CUP anti-capitalists got 10. Puttogether, they obtained 72 MPs with more than 47 percent of thevote. The turnout was 77 percent of the 5.5 million voters, setting a record, and 9 percent more than the 2012. Theanti-independence groups did not perform well in this mostimportant election in post-Franco Spain. The centeranti-establishment Ciudadanos gathered 25 seats, whileSocialists got only 16 seats and Catalunya Si leftists obtained11 seats. Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy's Popular Partyruns the risk of being pushed out in the upcoming electionstaking place in December. "Today, the 'Yes' has won, anddemocracy is the winner," said Mas joyfully. "We will notstop, we have won against all odds, and this is only making usstronger. We have a clear democratic mandate to carry on withthis project." Mas added, "We are writing the most gloriouspage in the history of Catalonia.". .
