(AGI) Rome, Oct 9 - The Board of Directors of AGI has a newmanaging director. Alessandro Pica was elected by the board ofCristiana Argentino, Marco Bardazzi, Raffaella Leone, MassimoMondazzi and Mr Pica. Massimo Mondazzi was confirmed aspresident of the Italian news agency, announced oil and gascompany Eni. Mr Pica, director general of AGI since March 2011,replaces Gianni Di Giovanni, who becomes head of internationalrelations at Eni Washington. Mr Pica, who was born in Rome in1964, specialises in foreign policy and digital information andAfrican and Middle Eastern communication in particular. Hiscareer has evolved around publishing. He started as marketingand innovation advisor to the Italian national and regionalpress. He went on to work as sales manager for Italian newsagency ANSA in the media and market sectors. He was responsiblefor relations with major shareholders until the startup of aventure between Associated Press and the e.Biscom Group, nowTMNews, and was director general until 2003. He was UNESCOdelegate for the reconstruction and reorganisation of thePalestinian press agency WAFA in the Gaza Strip and wasinvolved in re-engineering printing services for the office ofthe prime minister of Albania. He was district manager atGeneral and later at General Electric (GE Capital) beforeentering publishing. From March 2011 until being appointedmanaging director he was Director General of AGI. He set up anumber of ventures including an internationalisation projectthat helped the agency become Italy's main voice in the worldof international information. .
