(AGI) Algiers, Dec 1 - The new UN Special Envoy for Libya,Martin Kobler, affirmed on Tuesday that a national unitygovernment must be formed in the North African nation asquickly as possible, even if it means a lack of consensus amongall factions. "The political dialogue process has been launchedand we have to move forward to reach an agreement, even if notall parties are satisfied," he said after meeting withAlgeria's Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and ArabLeague, Abdelkader Messahel, during a gathering of neighbouringstates in Algiers. "I would like to make the (peace) processwith Libyan partners advance to reach the formation of anational unity government as soon as possible," he was cited assaying by the Algerian state news agency APS. Kobler added thathe is "convinced" the Libyan people would welcome a peace deal"even if there is no consensus". He also stressed the urgencyof reaching an agreement in order to tackle the immediatesecurity threats in Libya, especially in light of the presenceof Islamist terrorist groups within its borders. Kobler, whosucceeded Spanish diplomat Bernardino Leon, reached Algiers toattend the ministerial meeting among Libya's six neighbouringstates. Egypt's Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, emphasisedthat the timing is particularly delicate in light of ISIStaking over the Libyan city of Sirte, the Egyptian MENA agencyreported. "The nations bordering Libya are meeting today toclosely examine the situation in the country in an effort todevise the best strategy to implement the Skhirat agreement [inMarocco, ed.] and contrast terrorism," he said. "Countries nearLibya are those most struck by terrorists; coordination amongthese countries is therefore growing ever more urgent andnecessary.". .
