(AGI) Dubai, Nov. 27 - Two Italian women were cleared ofkissing publicly in a restaurant in Dubai. In October a courtsentenced the women to two months in jail after convicting themof committing a lewd act in public when they exchanged kissesin a food court. They were also ordered to be deported. DubaiAppeal Court overturned the decision after their lawyer, AliAbdullah Al Shamsi, said law enforcement procedures werecarried out improperly against his clients. A man, who waseating at the same food court, called the police and claimed hesaw the women kissing in September. One of the women said shehad been removing mayonnaise off her friend's cheek with hertongue. "It happened spontaneously. We did not have anycriminal intention," she said. Their lawyer argued his clientshad been questioned in the presence of an unauthorisedtranslator, which was against law enforcement procedures. Itwas the security guards at the food court who stopped hisclients, but they should have been detained by the police. Healso argued that the prosecution witness's statement was fullof contradictions and lacked consistency. Judge Aysar Al Ebyariacquitted the women and cancelled the deportation order. (AGI). .
