India: militants attack army camp in Kashmir border, 4 dead

(AGI) - New Delhi, 25 nov. - An indian civilian and three armedmilitants were killed by indian army commandos at an army basein frontier district of Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir state onwednesday, said an army official. The camp situated near theLine of Control(LoC), the border which divides Kashmir betweenIndia and Pakistan was attacked by armed militants in the earlymorning hours. The attackers entered the camp at the Kalsuriridge in Tangdhar region after cutting through a fence andfired bullets and grenades. Srinagar based defence spokesman,NN Joshi said: "Some vehicles were also damaged due to a blazein an oil depot inside the camp during exchange of gunfire."Indian state of Kashmir has been a bone of contention betweenIndia and Pakistan. Both claim that Kashmir belongs to them.Militants have been active in Indian Kashmir since 1989. Indiaoften accuse Pakistan of supporting militants by providing themtraining and funds to carry out attacks in Indian soil.Pakistan denies Indian allegations. (AGI).
