(AGI)- New Delhi, 24 nov. - An Indian temple chief's recentstatement has outraged women in India, who have launched a#HappyToBleed campaign on Facebook to protest against thestatement. The head of the famous Sabarimala temple in Keralain southern India had said that he would allow women to enterthe temple only after a machine was invented to detect if theywere "pure" means they weren't menstruating. The head priestPrayar Gopalakrishnan earlier said, "A time will come whenpeople will ask if all women should be disallowed from enteringthe temple throughout the year." He further said, "These daysthere are machines that can scan bodies and check for weapons. There will be a day when a machine is invented to scan if it isthe 'right time' for a woman to enter the temple." Menstruationis generally considered a taboo in India, people rarely talkabout it openly. Hindu women in rural areas are not allowed toenter kitchen or temples during menstruation. The campaign#HappyToBleed was started by college student Nikita Azad, whowanted young girls to come out openly against the sexistremarks of the priest. Nikita Azad said that women have everyright to go to temple as per their will. The campaign hasreceived a lot of responses from young urban Indian women.(AGI).
