World Social Forum to go ahead in Tunis

(AGI) Rome, Mar 24 - Despite security concerns the World SocialForum opened on Tuesday afternoon in Tunis. This conference ofcivil society, movements and international organisations hadbeen organised before the Bardo Museum attack. Around 70,000people are expected to attend the event, which will end onSaturday. Ahead of the official opening on the Al Manaracampus, participants have organised for 4pm a "great peoples'march against terrorism", to end opposite the museum theIslamists attacked last Wednesday. The attendance of allthe international delegations from China to the United States,Brazil, and India has been confirmed. All the activities arealso confirmed, including seminars, conferences, and culturalevents. A meeting will take place on Thursday to start writingthe "International charter of the alternative globalisationmovement against terrorism", announced the Italian Recreationaland Cultural Association (ARCI), one of the participants. A large number of European, North African and African tradeunions will be in Tunis, along with the movement's main socialnetworks, leading national and world associations, includingCaritas International, delegations from countries in conflict(from the Palestinians to the Kurds who have halted ISIS, toIraqis and Syrians), the political left and social democraticgroups, national and European parliamentarians, and delegationsfrom Syriza and Podemos. From Italy, hundreds of socialactivists, civic leaders and trade unionists, politicians andpublic officials will attend, said ARCI. In particular, ARCI isone of the promoters of a global network on missing migrants tobe set up during the Forum. "The campaign for a special sessionof the Permanent Peoples' Tribunal, dedicated to giving truthand justice to them and their families, starts in Tunis," saidARCI. (AGI) . .
