(AGI) Rome, Feb 24 - UEFA has joined the Confederation ofAfrican Football in support of the proposal to hold the 2022FIFA World Cup in Qatar in November and December. However,football fans reject the recommendations of the FIFA taskforce. According to a survey carried out on the News Republicapp for AGI, 54 percent of respondents are against a winterWorld Cup with 46 percent in favour. "UEFA supports therecommendations of the Working Group for the holding of theFIFA 2022 World Cup in November and December. UEFA believesthat - for the benefits of players and fans - the event shouldbe played in winter and now awaits the final decision from theFIFA executive committee meeting." UEFA president, MichelPlatini, disclosed that he had voted for the assignment of the2022 World Cup to Qatar. FIFpro, the international federationof professional football players, also agrees with the idea ofa winter tournament, calling it: "the only possible solutionfor the health and safety of the players who will be playing".However, EPFL, the Association of European ProfessionalFootball Leagues, warned that the period under considerationwould damage the individual national leagues.
