(AGI) Rome, July 4 - The United States is ramping up securityacross the country after FBI and Pentagon warned of anincreased risk of terror attacks during the Fourth of Julyweekend. Police have tightened controls in many cities and theState Department has sent a note to its diplomatic posts tourge them to convene emergency committees and to takeappropriate measures for the possible threats. "We arekeenly aware that New York State remains a top target forterrorists," said New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who hasordered enhanced monitoring of Fourth of July celebrations. "Aswe celebrate with family and friends this Independence Day, Iurge all New Yorkers to remain cautious of their surroundingsand learn to recognise and report suspicious activity," thegovernor continued. But the U.S. fears threats abroad mostof all. Embassies and consulates were warned several weeks ago,a senior State Department official told CNN. A possible attack"is consistent with a holiday of this nature," the officialexplained. "But there has been nothing that is causing massivecanceling of events." Most of the high threat posts in theMiddle East held their July 4 celebrations last month becausethe Muslim holy month of Ramadan fell early this year. TheUnited Kingdom fears terror attacks a few days after July 4.Islamic State (IS) reportedly threatened an attack in Britainon July 7, the tenth anniversary of the deadliest attack in thecountry. In 2005, four suicide bombers born in Britain but ofPakistani origin blew themselves up on a bus and on severalunderground trains in London, killing 52 people and injuring700. Responsibility for the attacked was claimed by al-Qaeda. The possible threat to the UK was reported by a U.S. websitethat monitors the activity of jihadists on the internet. Thesite also said IS fighters have been talking for days aboutpossible attacks on July 4th. An air show of the U.S. AirForce at RAF Feltwell scheduled on Independence Day in Norfolkwas therefore cancelled.. .
