(AGI) Prague, Nov 24 - The best of Giovanni Battista Piranesiworks are on show in Prague They include the graphic works ofone this major master of Baroque art. The exhibition has beenorganised in the palace of Clam-Gallas, and will showcase the"Carceri" cycle, the albums of the classical monuments, thearchitectural fantasies, decorative drawings and theoreticaltreatises. The exhibition "Giovanni Battista Piranesi, graphicgenius of the Italian Baroque (1720-1778)" continues until Feb.1. Some of the works come from Prague's National Gallery, fromthe Archbishopric Museum of Kromeriz, from the Moravian Galleryand from the Moravian Library of Brno, Prague's Museum ofDecorative Arts, and private collections. The exhibition hasbeen organised by Prague National Gallery with the city'sarchive, under the sponsorship of the Italian ambassador to theCzech Republic, the Italian Cultural Institute and theItalian-Czech Chamber of Commerce and Industry. ItalianAmbassador, Aldo Amati, underlined the sense of beauty which iscommon to the city of Prague and Piranesi's art at the openingceremony. The curators defined Piranesi as "the graphic geniusof Italian Baroque art", the "Rembrandt of archeological ruins"and a major artist of European art in the 18th century. He wasan architect, a graphic designer, an archeologist and anante-litteram (pioneer) of design. Piranesi has also beencelebrated for producing paintings which highlighted theclassical and modern beauty of Rome. (AGI) . .
