(AGI) Kuwait, Feb 23 - New Pentagon chief, Ashton Carter, saidon Monday that the U.S.-led coalition would without doubt"deliver a lasting defeat" to the Islamic State of Iraq andSyria (ISIS). The coalition is pressing ISIS "very ably fromKuwait and elsewhere", Carter said after a summit of topmilitary, diplomatic, and intelligence officials at the U.S.base of Camp Arifjan. "ISIL is not just a threat to Iraq andSyria. It's a larger threat to the region," said Carter, usingan alternative name for the jihadist group while speaking tosoldiers at the base in Kuwait. One soldier asked whether theoption of sending ground troops was still on the cards, despitebeing firmly ruled out by Barack Obama. The Pentagon chiefreplied that any additional military interventions would haveto be considered carefully. "We'll do what it takes," Carternevertheless added. According to confidential ministerialsources, the round-table in Kuwait aims to get a better idea ofthe methods and results of the current operations rather thanto change the coalition's anti-ISIS strategy. . .
