(AGI) Rome, Dec 1 - The Italian presidential office on Mondayresponded to requests to address the media's conjectures on theduration of President Giorgio Napolitano's stay in office inlight of his intention to resign. "President Napolitanoaffirmed on July 22: 'I am concentrated on the here and now,and above all I believe it is appropriate and necessary toguarantee continuity in the top State positions during such ademanding period as Italy's duty presidency of the EuropeanUnion'. That commitment has not been disavowed; it is thereforeabsolutely wanton to speculate on his resignation before theend of the Italian semester, after which the president willmake his assessment", the presidential office said in astatement. "Such a decision, which he will reflect onindependently, is and must be kept completely separate fromgovernmental activities and legislative functions. Thepresident is and remains engaged in a series of scheduledmeetings and institutional activities on both the national andinternational level". . .
