(AGI) Milan, Sept 15 - Mozambique is to increase its strategicrole as Africa's energy hub by supplying other African stateswith petrol and and diesel oil, especially in the south-east.The centrality of Mozambique's role is also due to the openingon Sept. 4 of the Beira terminal, in the centre of the countryand in the country's most populated city after the capitalMaputo. The terminal, which can hold 24,000 cubic metres ofpetrol, diesel oil and other lubricants, was built by Engen, acompany 80 percent owned by Malaysia's PETRONAS and the rest bySouth Africa's Pembani

Engen generalmanager, Drikus Kotz, said: "We have positively tested thecapacity of the railway connecting Beira to the cities ofBulawayo, in Zimbabwe, and Francistown, in Botswana, althoughwe also have the option to transport the material from theterminal by sea to Durban, in South Africa, and from there tomarkets in Zimbabwe and Botswana."
