Italy's EU presidency opens with concert in Tirana

(AGI) - Tirana, June 30 - Italy's six month long EU presidencywill be inaugurated on Tuesday evening in Tirana with the notesof greatest composers played by the Albanian and Italian YouthOrchestras at the Opera and Ballet Theatre. The concertconducted by the maestro Guido Corti is entitled "A journey toEurope" and will present a repertoire of music representing thevarious elements of European identity, ranging from GioacchinoRossi's Ouverture from 'L'Italiana in Algeri', Franz JosephHaydn's Symphony No. 104 in C major, to Bela Bartok's RomanianDances and Johannes Brahms's Hungarian Dances. With PellumbVorpsi and Arber Neziri as artistic directors, this event hasbeen organised by the Idea Foundation in Tirana and the FiesoleSchool of Music, in cooperation with the Italian Embassy andthe Italian Cultural Institute in Tirana, supported by theAlbanian Ministry for Culture and Albanian Radio andTelevision. The "Journey to Europe", presented just a few daysafter Albania has been given candidate status, emphasises howapproaching Europe has become a reality for the country,constantly supported and encouraged by Italy withdetermination. Furthermore, it also alludes to the twoorchestras' coming commitments, which include a concert inBrussels at the European Parliament to celebrate theirmembership in the Federation of Youth Orchestras.
