(VELINO) Roma, 3 Jul - In the United States Italy's six-monthlong EU presidency has started with an art exhibition. TheItalian Ambassador in Washington, Claudio Bisogniero, presentedthe presidency at the National Gallery when attending theinauguration of the exhibition of Titian's "Danae". Thisexhibition has been sponsored and organised by the embassy. TheRenaissance masterpiece, on loan from the Capodimonte Museum inNaples. will remain in the American capital until November 2.The "Danae" has been placed in a high visibility position witha large educational panel recounting its history andillustrating links to other paintings by Titian present in theNational Gallery's collection, as well as reminding visitorsthat the exhibition celebrates Italy's presidency of theEuropean Union from July 1 to December 1 2014. Furthermore, thepresidency's logo is emphasised on this panel. Addressing over200 guests, among them representatives from EU embassies andscientific and cultural U.S. institutions, AmbassadorBisogniero both for Europe and for transatlantic cooperation,emphasising the values reiterated in choosing this symbol. Theambassador also illustrated the calendar of events sponsored bythe embassy to celebrate Italy's presidency. It is a programmethat ranges from art to music, but with science and innovationplaying an important role. There will be exhibitions ofcontemporary Italian sculptures, drawings and prints from theneoclassical to futuristic, and Madonnas with Child fromvarious periods. Events also include a concert by the Cameristidella Scala and a series of performance by young Italian jazzmusicians. Gallileo's 450th anniversary will be celebrated withan event and an exhibition, followed by a series of conferencesheld by scientists as well as a theatrical performancepresenting a trial held by the Inquisition. Finally, there willbe a series of conferences on various subjects, includingeconomic growth and employment, innovation, energy andscientific research. vel.
