Italy celebrates 60 years of United Nations Charter

(AGI) London, Oct. 9 - Italy will celebrate the 60thanniversary of signing the Charter of the United Nations onDec. 14. Several Italian diplomatic missions are alreadycommemorating the anniversary. The Italian embassy in the UKorganised an event at the Italian Cultural Institute in London,where Italian judge Sabino Cassese and the former permanentBritish representative to the United Nations, Lord DavidHannay, emphasised the importance of the document. The meetingat Belgrave Square aimed to kindle a discussion on the ongoingprocess of globalisation and on future scenarios for the UnitedNations. It also focused on Italy's contribution to the UN overthe years. Sabino Cassese, Judge of the Constitutional Court,is also a professor at the prestigious Scuola Normale Superiorein Pisa, where he teaches History and State Theory. Lord DavidHannay, after entering the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in1959, was permanent representative to the European EconomicCommunity from 1985 to 1990. From 1990 to 1995, he was Britishambassador to the United Nations. (AGI). .
