(VELINO) Roma, 3 Dec - Egypt and Italy have held a workshop inCairo called "Egypt's Energy Challenges andOpportunities-Powered by the Italian Experience". The event wasone of those intended to mark Italy's presidency of the Councilof the European Union. It was attended by around 500institutional representatives and entrepreneurs from bothcountries, and by Italian Deputy Minister for EconomicDevelopment, Claudio De Vincenti, Egyptian Energy Minister,Mohamed Shaker and Egypt's renewable energy developmentauthority. It was a follow-up to November's visit to Italy byEgyptian President Abdul Fatah El-Sisi, who was accompanied byfour ministers and a delegation of businessmen. The aim was toassess the effect of reforms in Italy's energy sector to boostEgypt's energy sector. The workshop also aimed to explore waysto help Egypt increase energy efficiency and develop morerenewable energy sources, using Italy's experience andexpertise. The sessions focused mainly on regulatory, technicaland commercial aspects of energy efficiency and renewableenergy. The workshop was organised by the Italian embassy inthe Egyptian capital with Italian energy company Edison and theItalian Chamber of Commerce in Egypt. vel.
