Italy allocates 140 mln euros to supply South with gas

(AGI) Rome, Feb 24 - Italy's Undersecretary for EconomicDevelopment, Simona Vicari, received President of CampaniaRegion Stefano Caldoro, during the presentation of theguidelines for supplying southern Italy with natural gas, whichwas decided by the interministerial committee for economicplanning (CIPE). Vicari and Caldoro reached an agreement tofind 50 million euros for funds for development and cohesion(FSC) and the Por-Campania funds for infrastructure investmentsin Campania's municipalities. Vicari, together with Caldoro,then met a delegation of mayors from the towns concerned andoutlined the operational programme of the CIPE decision, whichassigns 20 million euros per year until 2020, for a total of140 million euros, to bring natural gas to the South. "SouthernItaly has not received funds since 2004," Vicari said. "Thisagreement is a great achievement especially for the Cilentoarea, which, thanks to the allocated funds and regionalco-financing, has finally been offered a solution to itsnatural gas supply problems."
