(AGI) Rome, Feb 23 - Italian shipbuilder Intermarine is amongmajor European companies exhibiting at Navdex, part of theInternational Defence Exhibition & Conference. Intermarine isexhibiting defence and patrol ships and modern minehunters atthe show in Abu Dhabi, which runs until Thursday, Feb. 26. Theshipyard in Sarzana, northwest Italy, is known for more than 40mine clearance ships, with nine different versions for eightcountries, including the United States, Finland, Australia andItaly. "Intermarine is a cutting edge company in building thistype of vessels, used mainly for demining measures [mineclearance] and defence actions in multinational settings," saidRoberto Colaninno, president of the Immsi Group. Thoseattending also included: Michele Colaninno, CEO and directorgeneral of Immsi, Livio Gorghi, CEO of Intermarine holding. MrColaninno said: "Intermarine is a cutting edge builder of shipswith advanced and complex design, construction methods andequipment. Such vessels are the most innovative minecountermeasure ships ever built, at a worldwide level."Intermarine uses hi-tech in their ships which include MissionSystems that integrate electronic navigation and recognitionequipment. They include underwater remote or cable-controlledvessels to search for and neutralise mines. Intermarine alsoproduces patrolling and multipurpose vessels. The shipbuildersaim to enhance their collaboration with the Italian MarinaMilitare, which is a major aspect of its development programme."We are working on research and technology projects with thelargest international groups in the industry. These projectsare carried out also with the navies of several countries,following international negotiations which will guaranteeIntermarine contracts for the next five years. I amparticularly satisfied with this international businessdevelopment as well as with our design capabilities. This hasbeen a major element in the refurbishing and relaunching plansof our shipyards, which will reach a financial balance in2015," said Roberto Colaninno. Intermarine's three-yearprogramme includes raising the value of orders from 160 millioneuros to 500 million euros by mid 2016. In the first ninemonths of last year, sales rose to 39.3 million euros, up 42.7percent, compared to the same period in 2013. The businessgrowth focuses on defense, following a decision to leave themarine recreation sector, which should help Liguria's coastalarea, and create jobs, the company said. Livio Corghi,Intermarine CEO said: "Intermarine's Sarzana shipyards employmore than 220 workers who have been recently joined by by about50 new employees. These are young experts including 12engineers hired to enhance our most advanced design andresearch areas, from the development of new generation vesselsto communication systems and the use of composite materials."(AGI) . .
