Italian firms "explore" the potential of North Caucasus

(AGI) Moscow, June 29 - Italian firms are "exploring" theenormous potential of the North Caucasus region, where theyintend to replicate the virtuous model of severalItalian-Russian collaborative efforts. This is the aim of some40 companies, either already operating locally or recentlyarrived from Italy, that participated in the 'Italy MeetsCaucasus' initiative, organised by Fiera Milano Russia and bythe Italian Honorary Consulate General in Krasnodar, under theaegis of the Italian Embassy and the Italian Trade Agency (ICE)in Moscow. GIM Vice President Vittorio Torrembini, who tookpart in the initiative, reported: "We found interestingpossibilities, especially in the sectors of alternative energysources, waste management and thermal tourism." Thiscooperation model should also be exported to the country'sother regions for the development of the fruit and vegetablesector which, in the North Caucasus, mainly uses Italiantechnology, Mr Torrembini said. The mission participants wereoffered the opportunity to visit production sites andfacilities and also the nurseries, the cold storage systems,sanatoriums, diagnostic centres, trade fairs and powerfacilities. For next year, Mr Torrembini continued, the plan isto also invite Russian partners from other regions because,once they see the interesting things put in place in the NorthCaucasus region, they may want to repeat the experienceelsewhere.
