ITALIAN DELEGATION VISITS CHINA TO DISCUSS CAR INDUSTRY

(VELINO) Roma, 25 Sep - A mission to the Chinese province ofGuangdong by an Italian delegation discussed cooperation in thecar industry. The delegation was led by the vice rector of theTurin Polytechnic with responsibility for Research andTechnology Transfer and Internationalisation, Enrico Macii;representatives the Piedmont Agency, the regional agency forinvestments, exports and tourism; Riccardo Groppo, consultantand analyst in the car, rail infrastructure and industrialautomation sectors; and Sara Armocida, as area manager forChina. The mission, organised with the support of the ConsulateGeneral in Chongqing, had two objectives: on an institutionallevel, to strengthen and expand cooperation in the scientificand academic field between PoliTO and local universities,involving private companies in a framework that would see localcar and industrial design sector companies jointly sponsorstudy and exchange programmes for the students of theuniversities involved; and to focus attention on the missionfor promoting the excellence of Piedmont in these areas. Thetalks explored possible business cooperation projects, such asthe export of machinery and Italian technologies; the creationof joint ventures; and the development of joint R&D projects.The mission established among other things that there areexcellent prospects for cooperation between the car industryclusters in Piedmont and Chongqing, with the activeconsultation and involvement of public and privateinstitutions. It affirmed that there are strong relationshipswith leading engine manufacturers in Chongqing (Chang'an,Lifan, Shineray). It also looked at the need to re-evaluateItaly's penetration of this key sector of the industrialdevelopment of the municipality. And finally, it helped withpreparations for the Italian Car Forum in Chongqing. vel.
