Italian cellist Filippini takes centre stage in Ankara

(AGI) Ankara, Nov. 26 - The Akademik Baskent Orchestra willperform on Wednesday night in Ankara accompanied by theworld-renowned Italian cellist Rocco Filippini, in the dualcapacity of conductor and soloist. The initiative was born outof the collaboration between the Italian Embassy in Turkey andthe orchestra of Baskent University, where the concert willtake place. The evening's programme includes pieces by AntonioVivaldi and Ludwig van Beethoven, which Filippini will performtogether with violinist Gonenc Sazer and cellist EdizSekercioglu. Rocco Filippini was born in Lugano, Switzerland,in a family of artists and studied under the guidance of PierreFournier. He won the Geneva International Competition in 1964.He has performed in hundreds of concerts in the most popularconcert halls in Europe, in the United States, South America,Japan and Australia, becoming a point of reference in the worldof classical music. Member of the Academy of Santa Cecilia,Filippini founded his Milan Trio in 1968 and later the AccardoQuartet. He was a cello professor at Milan's Giuseppe VerdiConservatory for 25 years and was concomitantly appointed musicprofessor at the post-graduate courses of Rome's Academy ofSanta Cecilia. He also collaborated with some of the world'sgreatest contemporary chamber music performers and developed acareer as orchestra conductor. (AGI) . .
