ITALIAN AMBASSADOR TO URUGUAY VISITS COLONIA AND DOLORES

(VELINO) Roma, 25 Sep - The Italian Ambassador in Montevideohas visited the Italian communities in Colonia del Sacramentoand Dolores and set out the Committees of Italians Abroad(COM.IT.ES) election procedure. He met Honorary Vice ConsulJorge Sanguinetti in Colonia, and discussed the implications ofthe future transformation of the consulate in Montevideo into aconsular chancellery for the Embassy and the introduction ofthe 300 Euro consular fee for new citizenship applications. Hemet local authorities in Dolores and took part in thecelebrations for the 126th anniversary of the foundation of thelocal Italian Society, which is extremely active in the area.Mr Palladino expressed his particular appreciation to PresidentEnrique Armand Hugon. Large numbers of Italians living inUruguay belong to Italian societies, especially those in theinterior of the country. These societies become cultural pointsof reference, not just for Italians, but also for the cities inwhich they are located, and their activities are highlyregarded by local authorities. These include courses in theItalian language, which is increasingly studied in Uruguay andthe rest of South America. vel.
