(AGI) Kabul, Sept 24 - Following through on 2011 economiccooperation agreements between Rome and Kabul, work is underwayto establish the Centre for Marble Technology in Herat. WithItalian stone machining and testing equipment due for deliveryin Herat, the Italian Marble Institute ISIM, Afghan officials,businesses and higher education establishments have agreed tohost the all-new centre at several locations. The EngineeringDepartment at the University of Herat will host testing,research and laboratory equipment. The Herat TechnicalInstitute will offer stone tasselling and mosaic courses forwomen. Once thefacility is completed it will also serve as a showcase forItalian stone machining technology. Marble industry cooperationbetween Italy and Afghanistan falls within the broader scope ofrecent technology exchange programmes signed by the ItalianDevelopment Ministry and Italy's ICE foreign trade institute.(AGI). .
