(AGI) Helsinki, June 25 - The creations of Salvatore Ferragamowill be on show in Finland for the first time at the MilavidaMuseum in Tampere, with the exhibition "Walking Dream -Salvatore Ferragamo 1898-1960", focused on the shoes that havecaptured the imagination of generations. Forty models will beon display, including the ones with metal-reinforced stilettoheels made famous by Marilyn Monroe and the invisible sandalwith nylon thread upper that in 1947 made Ferragamo the firstfootwear designer to win the prestigious Neiman Marcus Award,the Oscar of fashion. The exhibition, which will remain openuntil January 2016 has been organised by the Milavida Museum inpartnership with the Ferragamo Museum. Born in 1898 in Bonito,the 11th of 14 children, Salvatore Ferragamo displayed apassion for shoes from childhood. At 11 years-old he becameapprentice to a shoemaker in Naples and he opened his own shopat 13 in his hometown. A little later he left for America,first Boston and then California, where he began to design andcreate shoes for cinema. He moved to Hollywood where he beganhis career as "shoemaker to the stars". In 1927 he returned toItaly, focusing on the domestic market with creations in cork,wood, wire, felt and synthetic resins to meet the autocraticrestrictions of the regime. After the war he becomes famousworldwide as a symbol of the resurrected Italy, and when hedied, in 1960, had realised his dream of creating the mostbeautiful shoes in the world. (AGI). .
