European Court of Human Rights fines Italy

(AGI) Brussels, July 1 - The European Court of Human Rights onTuesday ordered Italy to pay 20,000 euros to Valentino Saba,who was held in Sassari prison in 2000 and assaulted by prisonguards. Saba had to wait until 2009 for the conviction of the12 accused, but, as the Court noted, they benefited from thelength of the trial and Italy's statute of limitations. TheCourt therefore ordered 15,000 euros to go to Mr Saba indamages and 5,000 to cover the legal expenses. . .
