Commemorative stele in Geneva celebrates Italian emigrants

(AGI) Geneva, Dec 1 - Geneva paid tribute to the contributionof Italian immigrants to the construction and development ofthe Swiss city with the unveiling of a commemorative stele. Theinitiative, in the central Place des Alpes, was promoted by theItalian Associations of Geneva (SAIG), which successfullyinvolved city hall and in particular city councillor GuillaumeBarazzone. Two councillors of state of Italian citizenship,Mauro Poggia and Serge dal Busco, spoke to several hundredItalians present about how their families emigratedrespectively from Piedmont and Veneto. Then Mayor of Geneva,Sami Kanaan, made the point that 20 percent of the GrandCouncil is of Italian origin, as well as the two Italian citycouncillors, Mr Barazzone and Sandrine Salerno, who was mayorof Geneva until June. For his part, Italian Consul General,Andrea Bertozzi, said that Italian immigrants to Geneva hadmanaged to integrate and succeed, with the second generationreaching the top in all sectors. (AGI) . .
