(AGI) Paris, June 2 - The meeting of the internationalcoalition confirmed its commitment to fight ISIS following therecent offensive of the jihadist militias in Ramadi, Iraq, andin Palmyra, Syria. "Absolutely no mention was made of a groundintervention: Iraq has requested a greater commitment, but onrefugees and military, in terms of training, supplies andammunition. The coalition is aware that ground combat is mainlyin the hands of the Iraqis," said Italian Foreign MinisterPaolo Gentiloni. The anti-ISIS coalition, and Italy inparticular, are collaborating with UNESCO in protecting thearchaeological sites located in the territories controlled bythe jihadist militias. Tuesday's meeting of the anti-ISIScoalition was attended by Irina Bokova, Director-General ofUNESCO. Mr Gentiloni was scheduled to meet with her at theorganisation's Paris headquarters in the afternoon. "The(Italian) Foreign and Cultural Heritage Ministries have workedhard to launch the idea of providing international protectionto the archaeological sites. Together with UNESCO and the Iraqigovernment we are creating a database for all the sites atrisk," Mr Gentiloni said at the end of the meeting at the QuaiD'Orsay. In addition, together with the United States and SaudiArabia, Italy is also leading an international group to combatthe source of financing for ISIS. "We are also working to stopsmuggling, because during the last few months, we found outthat 5 or 6 of their most important financiers are thoseprecisely involved in the smuggling of works of art andarchaeological finds," Mr Gentiloni explained. Commenting onthe meeting of the anti-ISIS coalition, Mr Gentiloni mentioned"the enormous awareness of all the coalition countries of howmuch all Western and Arab governments have the protection ofcultural heritage at heart.". .
