Al-Qaeda and ISIS agree pact at Syria-Iraq border town

(AGI) Beirut, May 25 - Al-Qaeda's Syrian offshoot the Al NusraFront pledged an oath of loyalty to the Islamic State of Iraqand the Levant (ISIS) at a key town on the Iraqi border,reported the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Theagreement, on June 25, is important as it comes after months inwhich the two groups, both rooted in al-Qaeda, have clashed.Now ISIS can take control of both sides of the strategic bordercrossing at Abu Kamal in Syria and Al-Qaim in Iraq, and alsoconsolidate their Syrian conquests in the eastern province ofDeir Ezzor.
