(AGI) Rome, Dec 1 - Ryanair launched a legal proceeding withthe High Court of Ireland against eDreams and Google for falseand misleading advertising following numerous complaintsreceived from its customers. When googling "Ryanair", the firstresult is often not the airline company's official site but oneof its copycat sub-domains belonging to eDreams: 'Ryanair CheapFlights' and 'www.Ryanair.eDreams.com', which has a graphicdesign almost identical to that of the official site. It cantherefore mislead Internet users, tricking them into paying asurcharge for the commission of the online flight bookingagency. A statement by Ryanair said: "eDreams has been allowedby Google to use misleading sub-domains and a copycat websitewith identical Ryanair branding to push consumers to theeDreams website, where they are purchasing Ryanair tickets atinflated prices." It went on: "Consumers are also faced with arange of problems when booking through eDreams, such aschecked-in bags not being recorded, contact details beingomitted and additional passengers not being recognised or addedto the booking. Ryanair has no issues with Google sellingadvertising space, but has repeatedly called on Google toenforce transparency on its online advertising followingnumerous complaints from Ryanair customers who were deceivedinto buying on the eDreams website when they thought they werebooking on Ryanair.com. Following Google's refusal to stopthese false advertising practices (which are in breach ofGoogle's own code of conduct), Ryanair has been left with noalternative than to take legal proceedings against both eDreamsand Google in the Irish High Courts.". .
