(AGI/IRNA) Tehran, Nov 30 - Italy and Iran signed 4 cooperationagreements on tourism and trade during the Italy-Iran Forumunder way in Tehran. At the close of the Forum, which wasattended by a large delegation of Italian businessmen led bythe Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Carlo Calenda, theparties agreed to promote technical and scientific trainingactivities in the field of the leather industry and tourism aswell as economic cooperation between the two countries.Valiollah Afkhami-Rad, the Iranian Deputy Minister of Industry,Mine and Trade, said the two countries intend to enhance trade,which dropped to 1.5 billion dollars in 2014. The wish wasalso confirmed by Mr Calenda, who announced Italy's intentionto expand its relations with the Islamic Republic in all areasof activity. Italy is Iran's ninth world trade partner and aimsto climb to the top of the ranking. Italy also intends toassist Iran in becoming the world's eighth-largest automobilemanufacturer by 2018. The Italian delegation comprised 370participants, including the representatives of 178 companies,20 business associations and 12 banking groups. The mission wassponsored by the Ministries of Economic Development and ofForeign Affairs and organised by the Italian employers'association Confindustria, Italy's trade agency ICE-Agenzia,the association of Italian banks ABI and Unioncamere, thefederation of Italian Chambers of Commerce. The aim of themission is to indicate and analyse the commercial andindustrial partnership opportunities effectively made possibleby the gradual lifting of the sanctions imposed on Iran. Theultimate aim is to recover the 7 billion euro trade level priorto the application of sanctions, which is now of 1.6 billioneuros, 1.2 billion of which refer to Italian exports. Theinitiative is sector-specific and focuses on the productionchains in sectors capable of best contributing to Iran's growthin the next few years: the environment, energy and renewableenergy sources, machinery, medical equipment and devices,construction material and the automotive sector.
