(AGI) Milan- The 17 regions which will take part in the WorldRegions Forum in Milan account for 10,2% of global GDP and 4,4%of the population and are increasingly proving to be the thosewhich should lead a new political era, claims Lombardy regionalpresident Roberto Formigoni. The latter also highlighted theimportance of the 3-day forum, which ends today.& 13; "The WRFbrings togethr 17 major subnational entities, which representthe most important countries of the world's economic engines."This is a significant number: the fact that so many regionsmade the effort to attend bears witness to the importance andvalue of a network which is expanding and becoming stronger".Aside from their worth in GDP and population, Mr Formigoni alsostressed the participants' importance by noting that theregions in question were "the driving economies within theircountries", with a GDP representation of, on average "15-20%"(with peaks of 30-35% excluding those coming from China and theUSA, which are at a disadvantage due to the size of theircountries' economies.& 13; He went on to say, "This confirmsthat we are creating a network of the planet's most advancedeconomies". Thus, "in the strong evolution which hascharacterized global development in the last two decades orso", the role of great sub-national systems "takes on a greatdeal of importance", because "they are cast into a role wherethey are responsible for a new political era: their size andfunction makes regional bodies the best platforms from which toharness strengths, integrate differences, seek alliances andforge partnerships".
