This wasfirst and foremost due to the theme because to aspire to "ahealthy, balanced diet sufficient for everyone is a challengethat must engage the whole of mankind". Indeed, the diplomatadded in his address to the enthusiastic crowd of hiscompatriots resident in Italy: "the theme of Expo is in linewith the priorities of our government that focuses itsinitiative on food security and agricultural development". Thiscould not be otherwise in a country where 85 percent of theactive population (mostly women) work in the agriculturalsector, which alone accounts for 20 percent of Gross DomesticProduct. To strengthen it further, added Ambassador Diallo:"our government has adopted a number of reforms to encourageforeign investment, and so we urge stakeholders, especiallyprivate businessmen to invest in farming and in the food andagriculture sector, two areas full of opportunity". Inparticular, Ambassador Diallo guaranteed "the utmost support"to Italians "who plan to open business activities in ourcountry". These words were backed up by the figures that thediplomat reeled off during his speech: "Between 2010 and 2015the share of the state budget allocated to agricultureincreased from four to 10 percent", while, "the 2013 to 2017plan for the development of the national agricultural sectorwas drawn up with the support of FAO". The Commissioner Generalof Expo, Bruno Pasquino, also stressed the, "huge naturalresources and tourist attractions available to the Republic ofGuinea", resources "just waiting to be developed, and the WorldFair is an excellent opportunity for their enhancement". Afterthe official speeches the delegations paraded along theDecumano road, the backbone of the exhibition site, accompaniedby music from the Tamara Lampui Troupe, on their way to theFruit and Vegetables cluster, which hosts a 125 square-metreexhibition space dedicated to the West African country.
