(AGI) San Donato Milanese, Oct 22 - Expo 2015 launched aschedule of events focusing on science and culture on Thursdaythat will be accomplished in Africa and linked to the winningprojects of the "Energy, Art and Sustainability for Africa"competition, promoted by Expo 2015 in cooperation with Eni,Official Partner for Sustainabiliy Initiatives in AfricanCountries. The choice of Eni for the collaboration with theExpo is due to the fact that this company has ascribed a highvalue to sustainability. Moreover, Eni has a special bond withAfrica, where it is the first international energy companyinvolved in hydrocarbon production. The Eni-Expo competitionhas given all African countries the opportunity to participatein this international initiative and show the world the Africanreality. These events, which will run until Oct. 29, are aimedat enhancing the African country. Eni and Expo have organisedtalk shows, performances, food tasting sessions and a photoexhibiton offering visitors a broad picture of Africa, itshistory and its cultural potential. The focus on energy and onthe cultural traditions of the continent have been selected andevaluated by a jury panel of 5 experts for the assessment ofsustainability, two of which are Eni members. An officialcommunique highlighted that these events underline thecompany's special concern for access to sustainable energy,including cooperation, innovation and research. Eni has beenfocusing on sustainability projects for a long time, obtainingempirical results and establishing long-term relations with thecountries in which it works. In Africa, more than in any otherregion, access to modern forms of energy has been a majorprerequisite for economic and social development and afundamental tool for sustainable growth, ensuring stapleservices as education, health, transportation and agriculture. Eni sustainability activities are part and parcel of thedevelopment projects for each country, with special concern forsocial actions and the improvement of the local livingconditions. The communique closes by underlining that Eniascribes importance to being sustainable in Africa and in therest of the world, thus creating assets for all stakeholders byusing resources without jeopardising future generations, beingrespectful of individuals, the environment and society, throughcooperation, integration, innovation, excellence, inclusion andresponsibility.
