(AGI) - Rome, 22 Oct - ''There is no secrecy, it's just a
meeting between friends in which foreign policy and the economy
are to be discussed,'' said Franco Frattini on Silvio
Berlusconi's visit to Russia, responding to questions from the
opposition. The head of the Italian foreign office said that it
is a visit which ''the Italian business and industrial systems
should be pleased with'' since ''strategic issues'' will be
spoken of, especially that of energy. Frattini said on the
Omnibus talkshow on La 7 channel that ''Russia is the country
considered by all to be one of the major players, indispensable
for a world without nuclear weapons (Russia was the country
that Obama rightly negotiated the reductions of armaments).
Russia is the country which has offered to enrich Iranian
uranium -thereby solving one of the largest problems in the
world today and is one of the strategic partners of the EU as
well as, thanks to Berlusconi, NATO. Having direct contact with
the Russian leader means that Italy is held in high esteem by
Russia, and being considered highly by Russia means that here
in Europe we can have an important role in the field of energy,
that we can understand first hand how the Iranian nuclear
dossier develops and that we can ensure Italian energy
interests, both for orders and for supplies to Italian
enterprises.''
